Iceland’s glaciers are a major attraction for both domestic and international visitors. Almost everyone has good access to the country’s glaciers in many ways. There are numerous glaciers in the south, from Eyjafjallajökull to Höfn in Hornafjörður, and many of them can be seen up close without much effort, at least the icefalls that fall from the main glaciers.
There are a variety of trips available for those who want to do more than just admire our magnificent glaciers. I went to one of these 30 years ago on Vatnajökull, and it was unforgettable. This was at a time when the conditions were rather primitive, but this may have added to the trip’s allure.
The main glaciers in the country are Snæfellsjökull, Drangajökull, Eiríksjökull, Langjökull, Hofsjökull, Tungnafellsjökull, Vatnajökull, Mýrdalsjökull and Eyjafjallajökull. It should be noted that the smallest glacier has probably disappeared due to global warming and is no longer included.
