Is Iceland Overcrowded Or Still The Solitude Destination?

The tourism industry in Iceland has certainly awakened this summer. Its signs can be seen almost everywhere you go.

It is probably still a long way to go before Iceland reaches its former popularity, but there are still a lot of tourists in the country. Most well-known tourist destinations are full. Hotels are full of foreign tourists as well as restaurants.

The question that arises is whether too many tourists are visiting the country? It has often been said that one of Iceland’s advantages is how easy it is to experience solitude.

Some people want to experience solitude, but it can be difficult when the natural pearls are crowded with tourists, as can be seen from the pictures. Others want to have as many people around as possible or are used to a large population.

After traveling around the South, it is clear that it is not possible to experience solitude on the main natural gems such as Skaftafell, Skógarfoss, Jökulsárlón or Fjaðrárgljúfur. However, it is still very easy to experience solitude outside the most popular places and even right next to them if you bother to go a little further.

Here are few photos from some of the most popular destinations. Click on a photo to start a slideshow.
