Iceland lacks the highest mountains in Europe. In fact, they are relatively short in comparison to well-known European mountain ranges such as the Alps. The highest peak in Iceland, Hvannadalshnúkur on Vatnajökull, is only about 2110 meters high. As a result, there is no need for oxygen when climbing Iceland’s mountains. This does not change the fact that some can be challenging to navigate, as it is a well-known feature of many Icelandic mountains that they are rocky and steep to the sea.
One of the most famous mountains in Iceland is Kirkjufell in Grundarfjörður. It is also one of the most photographed mountains in Iceland. My favorite mountains are the mountains around Vatnajökull like Snæfell, Herðubreið and the well-known Hvannadalshnúkur. Another mountain that is very dear to me is Bakkahyrna in the valley of Hnífsdalur. It appears differently depending on whether you view it from the valley, the sea, or Skutulsfjörður, but it is always majestic. Because thereare so many mountains in Iceland, one could probably go on and on about their favorite mountains, but for now, this will do.
