Skaftafell Is Perhaps The Most Magnificent Place In Iceland

There is one place in Iceland that is more magnificent than other places and that is Skaftafell, which is part of Vatnajökull National Park. Surrounded by the highest mountains of Iceland, rugged glaciers and vast black sand is an experience that can not be forgotten.

Most people can find a suitable hiking trail on the slopes of Skaftafell. You can hike up the hill and get a magnificent view of the natural beauty or hike along the hill towards Skaftafellsjökull. A lot of work has been put into making good paths.

The weather in Skaftafell is often very good. When we were there recently, the weather was wonderful, bright and warm. We have also walked on Skaftafell during the winter and it was no less wonderful.

On this trip we hiked to Svartafoss and from there up to Sjónarsker where there is an incredible view of Öræfajökull and Hvannadalshnúkur, the highest mountain in Iceland, which towers over the national park. From there you can easily hike further, for example, towards Kristínartindar mountain.

Skaftafell is a tourist hotspot. At the time of our visit there were probably thousands of tourists. However, the area is large and if you are prepared to hike you will experience solitude among the mountains, glaciers and the black sands.
