Icelanders are as closely connected to the sea as any nation can be.

For more than a thousand years, the fish around Iceland have kept the nation alive and in recent times have created important foreign exchange earnings that have laid the foundation for great prosperity for decades.

Icelanders can therefore be said to be linked to the sea but in a good way. Just like the chain that has been in the sea for a long time, a barren nation that has coped with poverty and harsh environment and flourished.

And the ocean’s seaweed chain deserves to be created in the spirit of the Japanese painting The Great Wave off Kanagawa by Hokusai.
