Laugarbakki is a small village near the main road above Miðfjarðará in the land of Reykir. There is geothermal heat and enough hot water for the village, the town of Hvammstangi, and a large portion of Miðfjörður and Víðidalur.
We have stopped and stayed at Laugarbakki several times and have good memories from there. The location is good because it is a short distance to many interesting places, such as Hvammstangi and the church at Þingeyrar.
The scenery around Laugarbakki isn’t spectacular, but the gorgeous salmon fishing river Miðfjarðará flows in a series of curves down to the sea. There is a footpath along the river from the hotel.
A hotel is located in the village’s old boarding school, which has been converted into a 56-room, three-star hotel with a sports hall and conference center. There is a handcraft shop, Langafit, in collaboration with the Ásbyrgi community center. There is a nice campsite nearby that provides many options, such as for family reunions. Arnarvatn, where fishing licenses are sold, is nearby.
I wanted to thank you for this wonderful read!! I absolutely enjoyed every bit of it. I’ve got you book-marked to look at new stuff you post…
