5 Breathtaking Waterfalls In The South Of Iceland

Waterfalls seem to have a special attraction among tourists and we must admit that we are no exception to that rule. Some of the most beautiful waterfalls in the country are in the southern part and they attract thousands of visitors every day.

Gullfoss is the pearl among Icelandic waterfalls. Always beautiful and always fun to visit the area which is becoming very accessible to tourists.

Seljalandsfoss is one of the highest waterfalls but not very powerful. You can walk behind it and the waterfall is very picturesque.

Skógafoss is incredibly beautiful. Great power and a lot of water falling from a cliff. You can walk up the  hill beside the waterfall but not behind it. We like to go as close as possible and experience the raw power of the waterfall.

Öxarárfoss in Þingvellir is not big but it is beautiful and has a place in the hearts of Icelanders.

Svartifoss in Skaftafell is unique. It is not watery but falls from an incredibly beautiful columnar basalt cliffs. It takes about 30 minutes to walk up to it from the car park at Skaftafell but it is well worth it. On a hot day, it is also ideal to fill the water bottles with ice cold and fresh water.

Here are short video clips of some of the waterfalls.
