Icelanders migrate a lot. Internally it is within their communities and can also be within regions or between regions.
In the year 2018 more than 35,000 people migrated within municipality, more than 12,000 migrated within region and almost 9,000 between regions. As you can see there is a lot of migration going on internally.
Externally net migration by foreign citizenship was 6,621 in 2018 and -65 by Icelandic citizenship. This is slightly less than the year before as there was more slack in the economy.
