If there is one thing that comes to mind when you think about the Westfjords it is the shores. The Westfjords shores make up approximately one third of Iceland’s entire shore length.
The endless fjords with inlets and coves are a source of life all year round. The birdlife is fascinating with some species going away in the autumn while others stay the entire winter with all that comes with it, but always having plentiful food in the ocean along the shore.
For humans there is also a lot to do along the Westfjords shores. Walking along the shores and discovering the abundance of life in variety alongside the shores is one my favorite pastime when strolling along the sandy and rugged Westfjords shores. Seaweed, small creatures and beautiful spiral shells make you admire the complexity and endurance of life.
On Westfjords shores there is a photo opportunity in every footstep and behind any rock and do not be surprised to find natural geothermal hot tubs along the shore.
