What is disputable is the reason for the melt. The majority of scientists studying this field around the world say it is global warming. Some say it has nothing to do with global warming.
Living in Iceland I have noticed the change in weather in the past decades. There is less snow in the winter and the autumns are milder. Iceland’s glaciers are melting at a faster pace than before.
We visited Switzerland last summer and there we experienced global glacier melt on a new scale. The beautiful Morteratsch Glacier has retreated 1825 meters since 1882. The photo shows how much the glacier has retreated since 1920.
