Search and Rescue Teams Fundraising

Search and rescue teams play an important role in Iceland’s society. For the many tourists that visit Iceland each year they are ready to help whatever the location, condition or time of year may be.

The noble people that take part in search and rescue efforts are doing so voluntarily without pay. The operations are mostly self-funded.

For fundraising the teams go door-to-door to sell merchandise and in the days before New Year’s Eve they sell fireworks and perform sponsored firework shows. That is their biggest source of income.

Sadly there are people out there that have the heart to steal fireworks from a search and rescue team at a crucial time for them. They are there for us when we need them and we should be there for them when they need us.

The people that stole the fireworks have been arrested and thankfully the fireworks seem undamaged.
